So Much Random
Next to acquiring good friends, the best acquisition is that of good books.”

I couldn't agree more :D

Welcome new friends! Here’s to hoping we can build a friendship (:

Now that classes are over for the summer, I find myself perusing books over at Amazon more and more. Not that I don’t have a billion waiting for me to read or anything… ha! I am just always on the lookout for new authors to fall in love with. I don’t know why I can’t read ‘fun’ books while I’m in school, but I never manage to, even when I want to. So, I am hoping I can get in a bit of reading this summer to make up for my slacker ass during the semester.

I’m pretty excited for tomorrow’s PaintBar. I was going to take my Nikon with me but Trisha made a good point –what if I got paint all over it? Apparently the tables they give us to paint at aren’t overly roomy and easily get paint droppings on them ha-ha … so I am hoping that the lighting in the room is good enough to take decent cell phone pics … HA!

Yesterday my mom busted out all of our “Portugal” t-shirts for Friday’s soccer game, lol. I just checked out their website to see if I could bring my Nikon to the stadium, and it says that it’s actually acceptable (because it has a removable lens). They don’t allow other ‘recording’ devices though—and most (if not all) those small point-and-shoot ones have the recording capabilities. Also, it’s exciting to scratch one thing off my “Bucket List”. I’ve never been to a stadium to watch any sporting event, so this will be my first time… which is exciting.

I am TRYING to plan a summer vacation—really a short ‘get-away’ … probably 4-5 day weekend.

With Dad going for chemo every other week, there are only a select few weeks we can actually get away … but as with every single summer, my brothers are dragging their feet. Then, the week before our vacation everyone asks me, “So where we going?” Really?! RaWr! I would actually like to get away this summer. The last few we’ve just hung out around home and while that is relaxing, I feel like I’m not using the time wisely to see new parts of the US I’ve never seen before. So, yes … trying to get my brother’s butts into gear. If I don’t hear from them by the end of next week I’ll just plan something for myself! RaWr!

In other random news, one of my favorite shows may be ending after this next season (BONES)—it’s not yet confirmed, but most are pretty much saying it will be the last season. I know that all shows must come to an end at some point, but the cast on this show have all been together since season two! It’s going on season ten. That’s pretty amazing, if you ask me. They’re all so great together, and if you were to remove one, it would completely destroy the dynamic, that’s how good they all are together. It’s rare to find a show like that …usually if you take one of the main characters away, the show won’t necessarily bleed out to death. For this show? It totally would (at least in my eyes, everyone has a right to their own opinions of course :D).

Anyway … the point of all that rambling is that I’m really going to miss this show if this is the last season – but I guess 10 seasons is a good round number for a show these days (most don’t make it that far). It’s just so hard to believe it’s been ten years with these characters :D

The other shocking “TV Show” news I read is that Damon may be leaving Vampire Diaries. [personal profile] aldro , can you believe that?! I am thinking it might be a hoax, but I dunno… That show would die if Damon left though, so that would pretty much ensure the end of that show. Honestly, they started killing off way too many awesome characters that I kind of started to lose interest in the show … but I did still find this (possible) news a tad shocking.

Wow, okay … shutting up about TV now, ha! This got too long.

Mental Illness
A friend asked a really good question regarding a lot of recent horrific crimes. I won’t share their name, in case they don’t want to be mentioned, but their question was: “For those of us who are trying to get better (with mental illness) how do we go about telling people that some people who have mental illness are not scary or out there to kill other people.”

This was my response.

Well, I think the first problem is clumping all mental illnesses into the one category of ‘mental illness’. There are SO MANY different types of illnesses that people suffer through. What’s sad is they aren’t clear on what exactly these people were suffering from and just say “suffered from mental illness” … well, 99% of Americans suffer from some type of mental illness, whether they want to admit or not. How many people suffer from Anxiety? That is considered a mental illness. Maybe Anxious people murder too, I really don’t know the statistics on that, but my gut says these people’s ‘illnesses’ were a lot worse than just anxiety. Know what I mean? The news needs to be clearer and not just start tossing around generic words to cover a whole spectrum of things.

Problem with the news (and there are lots of them, but this is just one), is that they never really get down to the root of things. They give you ‘fluff’ to sell their stories, get more clicks. The ROOT is where the real story is, and it’s not until WEEKS later that you find out the whole story about a horrific killing … but which news company wants to wait WEEKS to get the right story, when they can spout out 10 catchy words that don’t really encompass the full scope of a story and all that it actually entails. It’s sickening and I think that’s why humanity is falling into the pits and the news only encourages it further. Stop giving these sickos their 10 minutes of fame and clumping them all under one generic ‘mental illness’ heading.
