Decent episode. David's acting is still a little rough in these first few episodes and the badness really comes out in this one... ha! He DOES get better though, phew!
The episode starts off a bit action packed with the Military Police swarming a home, to a woman yelling in the background that it's her home. They inform the woman that her husband stole a classified military vehicle and were attempting to apprehend him, but when they enter the home and find him cowering in the corner of a room, completely covered in an odd rash, they really don't know what to make it of it.
When the husband disappears for over a month and the military refuses to give the wife any information on her husband, she notifies the FBI of a kidnapping.
Don't worry, Mulder's on the case!
We shift scenes to Mulder meeting Scully at a bar because the case is too classified (and has been pretty much been shut down by the FBI already, but that doesn't stop Mulder).
He explains the particulars and after Scully gives him that look that says, "No" but she'll still go along with it, he goes to take a leak. Where a very awkward moment could have happened. Thankfully he's washing his hands when Deep Throat stands there... staring ... watching ... blank faced.
He warns Mulder off the case. Tells him it could ruin everything he's worked towards.
Does Mulder listen? Nope.
So they rush off to investigate the disappearance of the test pilot. From there there's kind of this down-the-rabbit-hole feel to the whole episode. Every little thing they uncover only leads to more questions and then leads to Mulder breaking into a highly secured military base after both he AND Scully witness some very odd things in the night sky over said base. Now, really Mulder... did you think you wouldn't get caught?
Scully gets bad-ass on one of the Military honchos posing as a news reporter and it's pretty damn sweet.
Sadly, whatever they do to Mulder erases all the super seekrit stuff he was witness to after he was caught. Good thing Deep Throat comes back and pretty much tells Mulder everything he has always wanted to hear .... "Agent Mulder ... they've been here for a very long time."
Good plot that follows the UFO type of inquiry the show was premised on. We'll see that shift down the line, but yeah... good stuff.
[Movie] The Best of Me
First things first ... Horrible ... fraking .... ending...ever. I swear.
The movie is one of your typical Nicholas Spark's ones and how the hell he can manage to continuously write tear-jerkers is beyond me. Dude has serious talent for creating watersheds of women's eyes (and some men I am pretty sure).
This one stars Michelle Monaghan and James Marsden as the older versions of the younger story behind everything, which stars Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato. The movie bounces back and forth between 1992 and the present time to explain the current situation. Dawson (Marsden/Bracey) is one of the few lucky men who gets to fall in love with the first girl he ever really laid eyes on, and he's lucky enough to have her love him back.
Until one day he makes a horrible mistake and loses her forever.
Twenty years later (twenty-one according to Dawson), they are reunited when a beloved friend, who got them through the 1992 rough patch and later through the 20 years, passes away.
Of course, their love never died and they explore the possibilities even though Amanda (Monaghan) is now married with a child. They talk a bit about fate in the movie, and Dawson has always felt he's been fated for something and a part of him really believes its to be there for Amanda. He has no idea how right he is, but not at all in the way he will ever imagine.
To say I cried a lot is not really hitting the point home. I cried a LOT. It's very moving. While I get why it ended the way it did, it doesn't mean I have to like it ... at all.
If you like sappy films with lots of crying and a cheesy but somehow great love story ... check it out. It's on Netflix, which is where I watched it tonight! Because I hated the ending so much, it's getting 4 out of 5 stars :D
[Topic] Dad's 63rd Birthday!
I didn't mention it earlier because I wasn't sure he would be up to do anything today, seeing as it is his chemo day. But he actually felt well enough to hit up his favorite restaurant, which of course made us all happy. It's this really small mom-and-pop joint that serves some delicious (and cheaply priced) food.
He ordered a veggie pizza and actually ate four slices! I was pretty impressed.
My buddy
permanentmidnight talked about Fish-n-Chips in a recent post of his and so I was madly craving some of those and got them tonight. They were delicious! It was SO MUCH food that I only ended up eating one and a half of the fish 'sticks' and about half the fries lol. The rest is sitting in the fridge for tomorrow. It looked so good I had to take a picture with my phone (below).
He said he was feeling good today, which is always a big plus. <3 I love that man so much it's crazy. I am hoping for many more birthday celebrations with him down the road.
