[Topic] Weekend [Movies] Magic Mike XXL, (New) Mad Max, Unfinished Business
Ah, Tuesday … this week it is my Monday. I took an extra-long weekend and I have to admit, it was great. I actually feel relaxed today, which is rarely the case after just the weekend (usually need a full week or two lol).

I did have the most laid back weekend though, so that might be why.

Thursday night we did go out to Maggie McFly’s and had a great time chatting (and oddly it got quite detailed lol). I learned a bit too much about my fellow female friends, lmao, but it was a lot of laughs, so that’s the plus. I think as we get older we’re becoming a lot more comfortable with ourselves and sharing. We never really had ‘girl’ talks like you always see in the movies. I’d watch them and be like “Psha, girls don’t REALLY talk about that stuff, this is so lame.” In a way, I guess we’re all late bloomers ha-ha.

We then went and saw Magic Mike XXL (review/thoughts below).

The movie, plus the previews meant we left the theater close to 2 in the morning lol and all the girls were exhausted. I am such a night person … I was skipping to the car lol.

Slept in on Friday, and then we decided to go to the bro’s house early so we ended up spending the rest of the weekend there. It’s like a mini-get-away because my brother doesn’t have a house phone, so unlike our house where the phone rings off the hook and no one lets my dad REST … there’s just peace and quiet. I think it’s why we love going there.

I ended up buying a gaming laptop so I could hang out with the folks downstairs AND play my video games and that way spend time with them and not take away from things I like doing. It's been working out great. Brought that over so I spent a good deal of Friday and Sunday playing WoW.

Saturday we had a small gathering of just family at the bro’s house. It rained here but thankfully he has a huge dining table. We were able to all sit around it and share stories, have great food and spend time with one another. It was Diane, her Fiancé Flo, her parents (my aunt and uncle), my Godmother and her hubs, my whole family, Trisha and our good friend Mike.

Thursday – Magic Mike XXL at least had a lot more dancing. That’s the only positive thing I can really say. The parts where there was no dancing it was just … “WTF?” kinds of stupid LOL … I love Channing, I really do, but the whole ‘serious’ acting is just not in him. The whole time I kept thinking, “Just shhhh baby, just dance, don’t talk.” LMAO. Honestly, wait for it to come out on DVD (or Blu-ray) if you want to see it :D I do have to admit though the dancing parts were pretty fantastic, so that’s the only reason I’ll give it 2.5 out 5 stars. LOL … Acting wise, it would be a 1 out of 5 stars.

Saturday -- Then the ‘kids’ sat around and watched a bunch of movies. Finally got to see the new Mad Max movie and I loved it. I didn’t think I would, but it was great. Now, I never saw the originals (except bits and pieces), so I am coming at it from naïve eyes. I haven’t read if hardcore mad max fans liked this movie or not, but I did. The acting was superb, which is not surprising with Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy as the leads. I love Tom Hardy … I think he might be one of my new favorite actors. I loved him as BANE in Batman… he played a pretty good baddie, and a sexy ass Eames in Inception. Really looking forward to his new stuff… but I think he is sexiest as Max in this movie. Something about his few words, but strong demeanor conveys SO MUCH more than if he spoke…and that to me makes a great actor. I give the movie 5 out 5 stars.

Also saw Unfinished Business. It was definitely better than I thought it was going to be with only a few raunchy scenes. For once, Vince Vaughn plays the level headed, family guy slash business owner and is relatively unraunchy the whole film. Dave Franco ( plays Mike Pancake) … is the comedic relief in this, as an innocent-to-the-world character. Tom Wilkinson plays the older/wiser associate in the company of this odd threesome of a movie. Basically, they have to rush off to Europe to save their company and get this business deal or they’re caput. Of course, what begins as a simple business trip turns into all types of crazy as they get jerked around by James Marsden’s character, leaving them to try and secure the deal on their own behind his back. So yeah … It is a typical Vince Vaughn film without Vince being typical, which was a nice surprise. It is funny in a lot of parts of the movie, and I personally like raunchy, so I laughed hard at those parts … but I can tell it’s not for everyone if you aren’t into that type of humor :D … Personally I give it 3.8 stars out 5.

And lastlyyyyy … yesterday I spent the whole day with the pops (: It was nice. We went and picked up my new cruiser bike from the bike shop. Got this photo of him checking it out on my bike rack outside the store (the chemo makes his feet cold, it’s why he wears the socks with the sandals :D). A couple of coworkers and I are going to start bike riding (for pleasure hence the cruiser and not a mountain bike lol). So we all got bikes and this one is mine. Isn’t it purty?! <3 I'll make an 'update' type of post later on today (;

Yay for an extra long weekend! And congrats on the new bike. I'm glad you got to spend some quality time with your dad :)

I wasn't sure I wanted to check out the new Mad Max movie as I'm a big fan of the originals & wasn't sure I'd like it... But I've been hearing so many good things about it so now I think I will.

Thanks! It was a great day :D Hopefully it's nice out today so I can take the bike for a test run. It was way too humid yesterday ):

Another friend commented and she said she was a huge fan of the originals and she loved it too. So YES, check it out! Can't wait to see what you think of it :D

Yeah, it was pretty epic. I will definitely have to get it when it's finally released.

I love it too! It's one of my favorite colors :D Hopefully it's nice when I get out of work so I can take it for a test spin. Yesterday was so gross and muggy ... eck.

Very nice bike. I like the color.

I found as I got older, I was much more prone to sharing with my girls than when I was young. I was to shy to even talk about kissing when I was 15. Now, to close friends, all is fine to talk about, no matter how personal. I do think it's an age thing.

I super enjoyed Magic Mike XXL and I have to say that my own only "WTF" reactions were, as well, to the story itself. I remember sitting there and leaning into my sister now and again going "wait. Why...?" and "so then where is this person?" and "like seriously, WHAT are they doing?"

But the dancing? YES. They didn't have as much of the fun costume stuff and flashy shows that they did in the first movie, but the dancing was astounding. Channing Tatum's got some seriously sick skills at it and according to my sister (I haven't fact-checked it though) apparently he has done the professional strip dancing before? Like as an actual job before acting? Whether that's true or not I believe he's done at least the breakdance/hip hop stuff because it's clearly him in the movie doing the stunts |D;

I think Channing Tatum is actually a really good actor though, even when he's doing a serious role. I think they just had bad writers for the Magic Mike story XD; I'm more willing to give him credit for playing a badly-written role LOL.

He has lol. The first one was based on his 'real life' starting out trying to make it 'big'. He did some interview about how a lot of that time kind of was lost to him, so watching what he did remember replay on the big screen was odd for him lol.

And yes, the skills were definitely impressive. I loved the very end where the each got to really show themselves off... it was fantastic. And I have to admit the 'girl' in this movie was a lot better (less annoying) than in the first movie lol!

I think he's way better in comedy roles. He just does it so well ... but when he tries to be serious I just can't see it LOL ... But that might just be me. I have probably 'typecasted' him into funny movies and now thats all I can see him in lol

It was definitely a fun watch with the girls though and surprisingly we had most of the theater to ourselves so ... yeah LOL

Sounds like you had a very nice, relaxing long weekend with friends and family! :) Those are some great memories you're making!

I haven't seen the first MM, but I love Joe Manganiello--he's a local here (from Pittsburgh, PA).

I'm glad you got to spend yesterday with your Pops. I like that picture. :)
